The Bologna construction: the artisanal excellence behind the perfect fit
When choosing footwear for the warm season, the primary criterion is almost always aesthetics. Yet, the real difference between a shoe you enjoy wearing and one that stays in the closet lies in an invisible detail: its internal structure. Often, the stiffness we feel while walking is due to the rigid components and lasting boards used in traditional production.
To overcome this problem and ensure maximum daily comfort, in our Spring-Summer collection, we have given ample space to one of the most noble techniques of Italian craftsmanship: the Bologna construction, historically also known as "sacchetto" (bag).
The principle of this construction is as simple as it is complex to execute. The internal leather lining is not glued but hand-stitched to form a single "glove" that wraps the foot 360 degrees. By eliminating the rigid lasting insole, the shoe acquires extraordinary flexibility, so much so that it can bend completely, following every natural movement of the foot. Only a thin cushioning layer is inserted inside, ideal for absorbing impact with the ground without weighing down the shoe's silhouette.
The result is a shoe that combines an extremely clean, tailor-made line with unprecedented softness, free from rigid internal seams that could cause discomfort or rubbing.
In our 2026 proposals, we have applied the Bologna construction to versatile and timeless models, such as ballet flats and deconstructed loafers. Available in natural shades of sand and dove gray, these models seamlessly integrate into both daywear wardrobes – paired with wide-leg linen or cotton trousers – and more formal settings that require elegance and comfort for many consecutive hours.
For Campese Shoes, Bologna construction represents the essence of Made in Italy: ancient know-how that translates into an experience of daily well-being, step after step.
